FINALLY! Timecode for HDDSLRs? And some other new Toys…
I haven’t tested this yet- but I am working on getting a Lockit Buddy unit to test out. This could be REAL interesting. It is small box that allows timecode from a suitable source to be recorded to one of the camera’s audio tracks. I already own a Denecke timecode slate and a sound recording device that can also be jamsynched – so this is incredibly promising… can’t wait to implement this!

Also for those who already know about the indispensable software Plural Eyes that I wrote about awhile back but don’t use Final Cut Pro – well now there’s Dual Eyes! And there’s a special intro price of $119 until Feb 22nd – not too shabby for something super useful to any HDDSLR workflow!
Then there’s a marriage made in heaven – Redrock Micro + Really Right Stuff! I use Redrock as the skeleton to all of my rigs. And Really Right Stuff plates are the single best plates for my money – whether you’re shooting stills or video. We mount everything with them – cameras to handheld rigs, tripods, shoulder mounts, technocranes – you name it. Fast, easy, and dead solid.

isn’t sync’n up one of the easiest things to do? i would never spend extra money on it. Cmon, a bit of manual work should be feasable on any assignment.
The tech you get to work with makes me jealous. 😉 Not so jealous that I want to leap in myself — but jealous enough to come and read about you doing it. 😉
Do you lose any audio fidelity using one of the tracks for timecode?
Dude. pretty soon your DSLR setup is going to look like Medusa with a zillion things plugged into… Canon needs to just get with it and up their audio controls/quality. Or maybe THEY could offer something like a battery grip that gives you all the abilties you need for good audio (like a headphone jack, xlr inputs, levels). I hate all this franken-gear you have to use to make it work.
Trilevel Lockit works on 5D and 7D.
But you don’t need the Lockit Buddy thing. Yust the Trilevel Lockit Box and adpating to your TRS Connector/Audio Jack.
We using this since 8 months.
Yust adjust the box to your videosettings and sync with your sound device and then … voila… one sound device, a 5D, a 7D, another 5D … and so on … (depends on how much lockit u have ;))… all with timecode.
BUT (!) for perfect results, u have to sync every hour.
