I will be teaching a HANDS ON Workshop titled “Cinematography with a DSLR” – 8:45 a.m. on October 22nd (real early I know – yikes!)
“In this 3-hour seminar, Vincent Laforet will outline some of the most common challenges still photographers are likely to face as they make the transition to cinematography. This presentation will focus mostly on using the new breed of digital SLRs to capture video, as well as discovering the technical advantages and hurdles they come with (especially when compared to other devices such as the RED camera and other traditional camcorders). Laforet will demonstrate many of the DSLR accessories available to achieve professional results on larger productions as well as the post production workflow including video conversion, basic editing and grading. A live shoot segment will take place with the participation of a few lucky attendees.”

Without question that’s the best, most toy-like use of tilt-shift I’ve ever seen. Not only does it combine the thin, odd depth of field common in many tilt-shift shots, but a jumble of airplanes that seems wholly implausible to the common viewer, at least out of the context of children’s play. Wow.
Having never seen a jumble of jets like that outside of an aircraft graveyard or my boy’s toy box, I felt compelled to look up the location. For viewers interested, here’s the Google Maps link for the building in the image. It seems that the satellite imagery is newer than your photo, Vincent, but there’s still some jet jumblage going on.

@Jeffrey Friedl, Nice research! Yes – it as shot on what I like to call “Rush hour for Millionaires” – a June Friday – before all of them go to the Hamptons… craziest sight I’ve seen from the air of an aiport – made crazier by the TS effect…
Your headline mentions a Maryland event, but there’s no mention of it in the article… Is there an event here?

@Joe, I will update this as soon as possible.
Yes, is there an event in MD?
The title mentions MD, but its not on the schedule.

@Mike C, Here’s the skinny on that – I have been told by Canon that there is an event in MD on October 25th – but I haven’t had final confirmation since then. Should have it straightened out with 72 hours.
I was at your seminar yesterday and am going to the hands on workshop at PhotoPlus. I was wondering you were planning any 1 or 2 day workshops in NYC anytime soon. Thanks.
Can we who comment here call dibs on the event in Maryland?
Hi Vincent,
I was wondering what the Live Video Shoot & Lecture will entail in
San Diego, CA – October 16th – 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
and how do I reserve my spot? The website provided has not been updated with your seminar.
Thanks
Not to nag – but it’s been more than 72 hours, and no word on the Maryland event? :^)
Dear Vincent,
Could you please inform me how to enroll to your NYC workshop (22-24 October)? What are the rates? Thank you!
Just to make sure everything is all clear, The event in Baltimore is on Monday October 26th (not the 25th). ASMP Baltimore is excited to host it! Here’s a link to the event on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=151528029264&ref=nf
RSVPs are not required, but would be awesome.
See you there!
can’t wait to you have a workshop in Hawaii, i will keep checking the site. aloha
It was great to hear you speak at the event in St. Louis the other day – hope to be able to make it to one of your workshops some day. Thanks, and good luck with everything!
