Great camera support concept!
I don’t have any first hand experience with this product (nor have I seen it in action) – so please keep that in mind. But every once in awhile I see something that I find is so intelligent that I can’t wait to post about it – so here it is…
The VBag… Basically this is a vacuum bag used to steady cameras (it’s filled with polystyrene pellets, once you remove the air from the bag with an included vacuum pump, it turns rock solid) – and in effect take over grip equipment, high hats, and perhaps even tripods… it’s flexible, travels in a bag, and – well pretty ingenious!
I’ve seen this technology used by Paramedics in Europe to isolate spines/necks in car accidents – it’s exciting to see this concept used for camera support. From the pictures and videos on the site – it looks like this packs, travels, and functions quite nicely! If anyone has any experience with this product – feel free to post in the comments section!
Side Note: That’s a beautiful motorcycle. =]
KooL, its like organicly forming a desired structure to things, a different process than the traditional twist lock/rod structural engineering configuring you gotta do…
Used this with an Arri Alexa and a 5D mkII. It’s a great product and offers very rigid support in tricky or hard to reach places.
Well, I’m an idiot. I’ve been staring at these regularly for two decades, and it never occurred to me!
This is merely an adaption of the “beanbag” that is used nearly daily in operating rooms to position patients. For instance, a patient has to be turned on his side for surgery. You place the beanbag (a much larger one) under him, turn him, bunch it up around him to support him, and then suck out the air. Perfect.
Why didn’t I think of this? 🙁
It’s a very cool idea. Can’t find a price so it’s probably out of my range.
Great tool, but waaaaay overpriced.
I have three of them and love using them. Rock solid and extremely variable. They work on almost any surface and They are really good for protecting your gear from impact while traveling, from dust and from sunlight. They are really good to hide yourself and the camera for not being in shot as well!
Price for a set of three sizes with a pump is about 1000 € + VAT
Looking at $1500 for a full kit, based on conversion from Swedish Krona.
They are bat nut crazy!
They want $1,550 for the small bag!!
Hahaha! Ooookay!
Way toooo expensive. IMHO.
Very ingenious! Definitely going to check one out and give it a test run with my Canon 7D. Thanks for posting even if you don’t have first hand knowledge. It was worth breaking the rules for!
There is a nice YouTube version available here (instead of Quicktime which I refuse to install for exactly the same reasons both I and Steve Jobs hate Flash)

well, it may seem like it’s expensive for what it is but if it’s protecting $30,000 worth of camera gear then it’s going to be worth the cost. People thinks it’s crazy spending $300-$400 on a backpack to carry camera gear, but the gear is worth 5x that amount if not more.
Paul from Lentequip (Canadian distributor for the VBag) here.
Thanks for the post! The VBag does have a surprising feel that’s hard to appreciate unless you’ve tried it. We’re working on getting more out there so you can do this. In the mean time, make sure you watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntt0idhMKPE .
There seems to be some confusion over pricing. You can find prices from Canada on our website. Small bag set is currently $799 CAD.
