Download The raw “Reverie” Clips from the Canon Site before midnight tonight…
At 12:01 a.m. E.S.T. Thursday 10/2 (Tonight) – the raw “Reverie” clips from the prototype Canon 5D MKII will be taken down from the Canon DLC site…
Apparently the volume of downloads has been a bit staggering… I’m not allowed to let you know what the Canon numbers are – but I can tell you that I’m closing in on 1,000,000 visitors on this (my personal) blog since the initial “Reverie” announcement a little over a week ago….
With that said: If (hypothetically) half of you downloaded those 3 clips (216.64 MB) x 500,000 downloads – we’re talking about 103.30 TERABYTES of data being served in 6 days (17 Terabytes each day… or 208.95 MegaBytes per second over the past 6 days by the Canon servers.) These are rough estimates to be sure. But don’t forget that there are two other clips out there as well – the actual “Reverie” clip on the Canon DLC site – as well as the behind the scenes video on the SmugMug site… and those are not being included in these numbers…
During the initial release of the short film – there were close to four visitors hitting the site per second… 4 hours after the video’s release. Needless to say – they have to “turn the spigot off” and I can’t say I blame them… So you have a little over 6 hours left to download them off of their site…

Hey Vincent, you have been making big waves with the review of this camera, my congratulations for being a technological beacon for us and an excellent person-photographer. Canon is making great equipment. I hope I can have my EOS5D MII soon.

This is why torrents exist. Why Canon did not setup a tracker and release a torrent is beyond me. It could have saved them a massive amount of bandwidth. That being said, the clips could still be offered up on a public tracker.
Vincent explain please the focusing when in video mode,I’m just a bit confused,do you not focus automatically or do you use manual focus?

Pffff…. Torrent is your friend. I still don’t understand why websites doesn’t use this solution for something like this… It’s so easy and it could be the solution to this problem…

I was really wishing to get the RAW files so I could mess around with them. Anyways the footage looks incredible! This camera makes me want to sell my soul. Haha. If anyone knows where I can get the RAW files let me know.

Guys – I’m currently seeding a torrent of the publicly posted videos. I quickly downloaded all of them when they went up, expecting something like this would happen (not that I can blame Canon – it was gracious to host it in the first place). Anyway, point your torrent clients to here:

Vincent, I’d like to know if you can enlarge the view (5x, 10X) to check manual focus accuracy while filming, like you can in Live View…
Also, is there any counter when filming, to know when the card will be full or the 4GB limit will be reached ?

To my knowledge, reverie was never made available in its raw format. It’s only ever been released in mid resolution on the Canon website.

This is what bittorent was invented for. Really. Canon doesn’t loose any control by releasing a torrent, it’s a win for everyone.

Saw this article a few hours too late. I hadn’t gotten around to downloading the files, and it tix me off that Canon apparently didn’t realize that the demand would be so huge.
Downloading the BitTorrent now @ 480kB/sec…probably faster than I would have gotten it from Canon directly. BitTorrent is the best way to distribute big files like this. I guess the folks at Canon are realizing that now.

Does anyone know if the HDMI output in LiveView mode can be set up full-screen, ready for capture? I.e., without any camera status graphics overlays? And is the LiveView HDMI output true, smooth 1080p?
(All I’m getting at is, can the camera be used as a capture head to feed a RAID recorder?)
Daniel’s question is the latest and I’ve seen several similar – but Vincent, do you or someone from Canon know about the hdmi output signal and if this is the uncompressed 1920 x 1080 video at 30fps? Or is it merely for other monitoring options and includes the graphic overlays, etc?
