Behind The Scenes I

Firstly thank you for supplying this behind the scenes footage on top of your normal workflow that is taking place. Im sure many of us know exactly how much more work it is to do this and i thank you personally for it!..

I spent 3 months last winter shooting photos and video on the North Shore and to watch Jamie surf as well is amazing on its own!..

Hope you get some waves instead of constant rain up there since I don’t really see a lot in the forecast. stop by teds for some pie and food, place is great.

I’m really glad to see someone else getting really great shots without a huge setup and thinking outside the box instead of doing the same thing as everyone else. Also glad to hear your warning about safety. The areal stuff is nice, but I think I missed what camera you were using for it. I’m very interested in seeing how the final results look especially between the Red footage and the Canon footage.

Footage looks great so far, really interesting to see which camera is used for each shot. I can’t wait to see more.

You know several people just started shopping for RC Helicopters, don’t you? 😉

Don’t forget your gyro mounts, kids. And kiss that expensive lens goodbye.

Have you tried your underwater camera rig yet? I hope that you can get good shots in the water with shorter focal length lenses that allow you to see more dimension and color.

People who want to do RC helicopter photography should use a simulator for a substantial number of hours to reduce the expensive crashes. I cannote emphasize this enough. Use the simulator first 🙂 Electric has less vibration and is cleaner. Also, the buy the better part once philosophy will save you money in the long run.

As a very young photographer, I’ve been inspired by your work. I think it’s great that you allow not only me, but the rest of the world see a glimpse of how you do what you do. This, along with other blogs has inspired me to start my own.

As for this post:
It’s not just that I love Hawaii, but these shots are amazing. And I think it’s great that you’ve found a way to incorporate your aerial photography into something that would seemingly be so ground oriented. Something as simple as what you’ve done with the RC helicopter has even lead me to think a bit differently about my own photo opportunities and angles.

The RC helicopter idea is such a smart idea…and so cool!! How did they mount the 5D2 on a helicopter anyone know?

I agree that helicopter shots should only be performed by people who have experience with rotor-craft aviation, or have experience flying RC’s. I’ve been flying R-22’s and R-44’s for the past 15 years and watching you work with an RC has truly inspired me. What is the particular model of the RC helicopter you used in that shot?
