Discussion on chasejarvisLIVE
In case you missed it two weeks ago, I sat down with fellow photographer Chase Jarvis for a discussion on his weekly webcast – chasejarvisLIVE. We had a great time talking about photography, video, and everything in between. The whole thing was done in anticipation of my second creativeLIVE workshop – Moving from Stills to Video – which was a lot of fun, and I encourage you to check out. A lot of people have told me that Day 3 was a clear highlight o the 3-day workshop and one of the stronger workshops they’ve been to or seen out there relating to making the move from stills into motion.
Chase just reposted the video on his blog and I thought I would re-post it for you all as well. The topics we covered in this talk are all great fodder for discussion – so leave your thoughts and comments below!
Keep up the good work!!! Chase Jarvis and Vincent Laforet are the bomb combo when it comes to HDSLR info!!!!
Just starting to getting into video for myself and for Digital Capture Systems! Craziness is fun! Teaching is the best way to learn, I don’t think you really get to know something until you figure out how to teach it. I really like the “surround yourself with talented people” quote, I like the fact that when you work with a team in film you credit them, I wish we did this with stills.
I think Chase is very right with the light and fast stuff, its nice that DSLR’s are light so its nice to have a light and fast crew.
I would love to see a post/video about just woking with the editor, the black box of editing.
It seams like we have to learn as much as we work/shoot now days.
I would help you shoot something you want to shoot!!!!
Guys – this was the treat of the day, thank you for the honesty and go get it attitude.
I love the Taking the chances part, and i cant agree more. I’ve had my first 5D video production shot last year. I’ve done stillphotography only – but when asked to do a documentary with Tommy Hilfiger – and you know what, it came out great.
Believing your visions, trust them and act on it – have found helped me.
This step up, turned into my first video, as an director/producer/photography – with a fantastic crew on a musicvideo – it’s not Lady G, but the exact same feeling Vincent described 🙂
I enjoy your minds and the questions you guys bring to the desk. I would’nt leave the office while watching these 34 minuttes of pure passion, not even if the house was on fire.
Thanks,´
Chase and Vincent, thanks for a little insight into your lives, strengths and weakness over the years. This piece, is like so many conversations I have had of the years with friends, photographers and other creatives.
Even though you two are dominating the photography landscape, its great to see a humble conversation with the two of you.
It seams like we have to learn as much as we work/shoot now days.
