Big announcements from Canon today
Today Canon announced a BEVY of new gear… Rob Galbraith did a great job of listing the features of the new lenses and Gizmodo had a great review of the Canon 60D.
I have to say I’ve rarely (if ever) seen this many products announced all at once.
For those of you who may not know – The “Canon Expo” is taking place at the end of next week – an event that Canon puts together every FIVE YEARS!!!! Basically it’s their Olympics…This is where one can expect BIG announcements.
It’s become the norm over the past few years for companies to make their big announcements well ahead of tradeshows (that way the big announcements don’t get lost amidst the hundreds of other announcements made DURING the expo…)
I’ll be there – as will many of my fellow Explorers of light.
So many Lens announcements. Might have to take out a loan to afford those telephotos.
Plus it looks like they’ve listened and put the new IS systems in everything.
When are the lens prices going to be made public? Thanks in advance.
According to PopPhoto – this is going to retail for $1,400 and will be available in January! Can’t wait to get my hands on this baby – http://www.popphoto.com/zooms/2010/08/canon-unveils-4-new-l-series-lenses-and-2-extenders?page=0,0
been waiting for this since they made the ten-twenty
Will they be selling a bra for this lens? It’s really should be covered up.
On a 5D, Can you hold this lens and not be in the picture. 🙂
It looks like the glass extends beyond the lens barrel so how do you attach a filter? Will we have to carry around a matt box for it….

@Jamie, if it’s like the 14mm, then it has a rear gel filter.

@Michael Marks, Haven’t seen the unit yet – but Michael is correct.. forget about using ANY matt boxes on this lens.. way too wide…
so this isn’t that big announcement that was promised, right? also I’d still rather take a 7D and that fisheye looks amazing!

@Sam, who knows… I’m curious myself
LOL! Vincent, I KNEW you’d hop on the fisheye slider. I want to see it on my 5D2… 8mm! Whoa!
Hey, is the IS on the new 400mm/2.8 the Hybrid kind like on the new 100mm Macro? Canon says it’s advanced, but doesn’t call it “Hybrid”. You talked about the new IS in your DSLR Creative Live Weekend. Ha, you talked about it alright, I bought the 100mm IS the next day, stinker! ;^)

@Paulie, I’m afraid not…don’t know for sure – but the new 70~200mm did not… they should be putting the Hybrid IS in ALL lenses – but i’m afraid they haven’t caught on yet to the advantages the Hybrid IS gives to us video HDDSLR folks
