A good photographer does not always make a good picture editor…

I woke up to an e-mail today from Simon Barnett (Newsweek’s director of photography) telling us that he was quite happy with our collective work so far and letting us know that he thought that perhaps we were being a bit “too hard” on ourselves and the photography we were producing here at these Olympic Games in our blogs.
I think its always good to be hard to yourself
but well i like your pics a lot
great blog
keep doing the good work !!
I find it almost impossible not to be your own worst critic, but that still doesn’t make a photographer a good editor, or maybe an overzealous one.
I had that same problem with the card-reader cord that came loose during import. I couldn’t import the files to my mac, but I tried it on a PC and that worked. As an Apple fan that was a big bite to swallow.
Vincent, you guys are shooting GREAT stuff so far, and I look forward to your updates.
If you haven’t tried yet, you might want to give PhotoRescue a try to save your images. It’s saved me a few times when I removed the card, (either manually or because of a loose connection), from my Mac. It’s well worth the $29, but it will even let you see what it can salvage before you buy it.
It’s available for download at Datarescue.com
Again, great job by all of you guys, and kudos to Newsweek for making the choice to cover the Olympics in this manner.
The mascara is very creepy!!!
Come visit John and I in Mexico soon!!!!!!!!
xo,
Love that nose clip!
Hi Vincent
Another great blog and excellent pics!
How do you decide what events to cover, or is it just what you fancy at the time?
Kind regards
NIGEL (U.K.)
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for keeping this blog. I don’t know how you’re managing it with all the rest of the things you need to do during the Olympics.
Watching the events on TV, I’m struck again and again by the insanity of the media coverage. Cameras (video and still) everywhere you look at the gymnastics events, stands full of hundreds of photographers at the swimming and track events, photographers running around in circles chasing athletes celebrating victories — or defeats. It’s insane! And is seems to me that most of those photographers, sitting in the same stand all together, are going to end up with the same shot. Is this really the best way to cover the Games?
What’s your take on all that?
