Cool Video – (500) Days of Summer – RECUT
I came across this video today that takes footage from Marc Webb‘s “(500) Days of Summer“, and cuts them into a new trailer for the film – with a slightly darker twist. The re-edited trailer gave me a good laugh, but also reminded me how important a trailer can be in providing an impression of the film they represent. All the footage here is from the original film, but when select shots are re-ordered and set to moodier music (from the upcoming “Inception“), it advertises a film that is much the opposite of the original’s light and quirky tone. It sort of makes you wonder how much you can trust a movie trailer to begin with?
Always in the remake series, I think the funny shining trailer is great!

That’s great. I love trailers. Have you seen the mashup of Toy Story 3 and Inception. Similar vibe.

I’d never heard of the film until seeing your fake trailer, then went to the imdb site and saw a really lame trailer, then lastly found a good (and real) one. It’s kinda crazy how much of an impact the cut can have.
As a consumer, I judge whether or not I want to see a movie based on it’s trailer.

Editing is great but the movie is too overpowering for the trailer… Tempo is paced too fast for that kind of movie… All of course, IMHO.

It is amazing how mashing up video can totally change the entire context of a movie trailer! Those editors really have a lot on their plate I guess and I think we, the public, take it for granted.
