wow. that makes me excited about video.. nice work Vincent. It is great to see this camera in you hands as it has obviously sparked a fire of creativity in you.. we creative professionals need that and i hope this camera does the same for me
Comment by Eric Cotter 09.22.08 @ 11:44 pmStunning. Vincent, this entire thread is an inspiration. Your excitement is contagious. Thanks for paying it forward, it’s working…
Comment by Paul Pangrazzi 09.22.08 @ 11:46 pmThank you, I’ve been waiting for this all weekend!
It’s nice to feel welcome as a Canon shooter again (after a few months of Nikon induced angst).
Comment by JVL 09.22.08 @ 11:46 pmWow, very nice video; from a SLR none the less. I am concerned about the auto focus during video. Canon’s site implies there is, but your video seems to show otherwise. What are your thoughts??
Autofocus

* Live Mode
* Live View Face Detection Mode
* Manual
Thanks for taking the time, this is an awesome showcasing of the 5D!

Comment by Tanner Johnson 09.22.08 @ 11:50 pmthat was awesome.
especially for the conditions you stated.
72 hours with a piece of equipment, no prior “training”, no manual, first time doing a video shoot, and a limited budget.
simply
amazing.
I’m drooling just looking at that screen capture from the helicopter… Waiting for the video to load!!!!

Comment by Matthew Saville 09.22.08 @ 11:50 pm@Scott:
SmugMug is ready and willing to host 720p and 1080p versions of the video. As I understand it, Canon wanted to do it, though, so we’re waiting in the wings.
I have no idea why Canon wouldn’t show off the full 1080p glory of this fabulous footage on their new game-changer, though. Seems strange… ?
Comment by Do MacAskill 09.22.08 @ 11:51 pm[...] Vince Laforet’s 5D Mk II Video Out Here’s a quickie - From an earlier post, here’s the Canon 5D Mark II video is now out. Check it out here at his site: http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/2008/09/22/without-further-ado-reverie/ [...]
Pingback by Vince Laforet’s 5D Mk II Video Out « mikelao photography 09.22.08 @ 11:51 pmIt’s beautiful. And quite an accomplishment for 72 hours. Great work.
For those wondering why it looks like video, there are two reasons.
The first, as previously discussed, is that it’s at 30 fps.
But even more responsible for the video-like appearance is the shutter interval. Film usually has a shutter speed of 1/2 the frame duration, i.e. 1/48 second for 24 fps. Video, unencumbered by a physical shutter, often has a shutter speed equal to the frame rate. The most video-like sections of this short are those with 1/30th shutter speeds.
This issue plagues many 24 fps HD examples as well. Even at 24p, a “360 degree shutter” results in too-smooth motion with a video-like appearance.
I’m not trying to critique the piece at all, just hoping to preemptively answer the question of why some 30p samples look so filmic and some don’t.
In other words, 24p is only half of the filmmaker’s solution—the other hald being manila control, teh ability to enforce a 180 degree (1/48 at 24p) shutter speed.
Comment by Stu 09.22.08 @ 11:52 pmThat was incredible! I could never belive an SLR could provide video of THAT quality! Props to you!
Comment by Max Edin 09.22.08 @ 11:52 pmWow….goosebumps, Vincent. Amazing! I can’t wait to get my hands on this camera!
Comment by Jason 09.22.08 @ 11:53 pmDamn - I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these to play with. I haven’t had an overwhelming interest in video in the past - but a large part of that was not wanting to invest in another set of hardware. Now, though? I can’t wait!
Comment by Daniel Garcia 09.22.08 @ 11:54 pmAbsolutely astounding work, Vincent, thanks for sharing this and getting this whole thing going. I suspect this is going to be a big deal..

Comment by ChrissyOne 09.22.08 @ 11:55 pmAmazing work!! Great job Vincent and what a camera. I am so jacked about what I just saw I cant believe it..You were right on when you said everything will change.. Thanks for extra effort in putting this together..
Comment by Patrick 09.22.08 @ 11:55 pmVincent - a question:
During the helicopter scene when you panned down on one of the tall buildings, it looked like the camera irised down…was that something that was automatic? Done manually? In post? Or is there an exposure setting lock in video mode?
Comment by Jason 09.22.08 @ 11:57 pmAwesome work, Vincent - nothing short of breath-taking for such a minimum amount of time. Thank you for taking the time to put together such a fine example of the potential of the 5DII.
Your efforts are appreciated.
Comment by Brandon 09.22.08 @ 11:57 pmStu - could you, in theory, replicate the “180 degree shutter” by shooting at say 48 or 60fps, and then cutting out every other frame? (I know you can’t with this camera, i’m just asking hypothetically)
Comment by Daniel Garcia 09.22.08 @ 11:57 pmGreat! Absolutely great. This IS a revolution.
I love the way you use your TS lenses. Great color.
Great quality. You could paint out the seat belt

Simply amazing! And the fact that a photographer as busy as you spends the better part of this last week working on this “project”, getting it out there for all to see, is also amazing. THANK YOU FOR ALL THIS HARD WORK!

Comment by JVL 09.23.08 @ 12:00 amThe quality is impressive. Maybe you should get a commission on all the Canon 5D MkII’s that are going to be purchased because of this. I know I’m going to buy one! It would be fun to know what lenses were used for which frames. A person could guess some of them, but it would still be interesting none-the-less. Thanks so much for what you do.
Comment by Naomi from MN 09.23.08 @ 12:00 amWhich frames were shot with the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L
TS-E 45mm f/2.8? Simply amazing.
@Daniel Garcia: yes, that would work, but it’s certainly not ideal… (Plus there are very few video cameras out there that can shoot 48fps)
Comment by ben syverson 09.23.08 @ 12:04 amWow… just wow… (Love the Moby - Extreme Ways at the end)
Look at that image quality!!!! Very well filmed, good job!
Comment by Scott B. 09.23.08 @ 12:04 amThanks for sharing Vince, I was particularly excited to see the aerial footage. How did the camera behave for aerial work in your opinion. Were you shooting with a gyro handheld?
Nice Job!
Comment by Tabb Firchau 09.23.08 @ 12:04 amSimply incredible for an SLR! As you said this is a total game changer. I already found a use for having both still and video capabilities in one unit for our photographers where I work. They already use the 5D. The quality of the video will help combine two services with using only one person as opposed to using a small crew. Definitely time to upgrade.
Comment by Gittar 09.23.08 @ 12:04 amLooks great, I can’t wait to see the making-of video and see how it all came together and scope out what was used where!
Comment by Miles 09.23.08 @ 12:05 amHoly Crap. That was astonishing! Seriously, Holy Crap. I just keep saying it. Wow, wonderful video.
Comment by Tim Larsen 09.23.08 @ 12:07 amAlso, maybe it’s just my untrained eye, but I didn’t spot any rolling shutter problems. All the fast action, like running out of the apartment and grabbing the flowers, the wheels spinning then skidding to a halt.. all that stuff looked perfect to me.
Comment by Miles 09.23.08 @ 12:08 amAmazing (yet pricey) result, given such a short period.
Now I understand why Canon didn’t bother improving the aging AF system of the 5D : this mkII is for filming, not photographing (what was I thinking?).
Stunning. Kudos Vincent, Canon and everyone involved.
As Stu said, if Canon can add a 24p mode and a shutter speed control (or a fixed 180 degree shutter) we could have a full film look!
I’m still drooling… ![]()
Great work! I can’t wait to see the behind the scenes footage!
Comment by Chris 09.23.08 @ 12:09 amWow, amazing. I must say reading your blog posts have given an extra little boost to save my money and buy the mark II instead of trying to get a good deal on an old 5d
but I look at it this way: you (the consumer) are getting a pro grade video camera and a pro grade SLR for about $3000, thats a deal.
Its like; is the video part of the camera on par with a $1500 video camera?(uh duh) and is the 21 megapixel super SLR part of it worth $1500 as well? you bet!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us

Comment by Nate 09.23.08 @ 12:10 am@Don, indeed it’s very strange that Canon would offer the 1080p version to amaze all. I mean even this version was amazing, but I can’t wait to hopefully, eventually be able to enjoy the 1080p version on my 24″ monitor: beauty. I even tried multiple other URIs for the m4v file to see if it was on Canon’s servers but couldn’t find anything…

Nikon always sends one person to poop in the punch bowl, don’t they?
The camera is not at all pricey given its feature set. And its AF system is just fine. It may not have one zillion focus points like some cameras, but how many are really needed? 9 is perfectly fine and the image quality is going to blow everything else away. It is still a dSLR for photography; video is just an added bonus.
Comment by Johnny Blood 09.23.08 @ 12:14 amVincent,
I’ve been a huge fan of your work - especially since the Beijing Olympics. I followed your blog posts every day. Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ll be one of the first people in Seattle to be getting this camera - I placed my deposit for it at the pro store and more than likely will be receiving the camera from the first shipment. Comment by Talya Arbisser 09.23.08 @ 12:26 amI was excited about the video capabilities when the specs were officially released. Canon’s site got killed, but I waited for their anemic video examples (I knew it was something special just seeing the clips, but there were too many unanswered questions for me to jump on ordering it). That is, until I discovered this site and you’re first post about the film! I pre-ordered the 5d then, after reading your success, feeling the excitement about a tool to change independent filmmaking, and eagerly awaited this video!
My god, I am glad I pre-ordered then. This video just ensured a one year waiting list. Now I am just concerned (other than the economy) about how much I will have to pay to get a second body.
Well done and thank you.
Comment by Ian 09.23.08 @ 12:26 amWow, that is ridiculous. I am sitting here in awe, and can’t believe that I even just viewed that video. Comment by Scott 09.23.08 @ 12:34 amFantastic work, Vincent. I love your translation of your own style with stills to the world of video. It will be a very interesting time for creativity and exploration for photographers when they have this tool in hand. With the right tool in hand, you have quickly (and cheaply) made something magical. Congrats!
Comment by Ashwin Rao 09.23.08 @ 12:36 amVincent- you’re energy and enthusiasm is both infectious and entertaining. Thanks for letting us see what the 5dII can do.
I’m primarily a still photographer but saw a need to add some other skills to the skillset and started working with video about two years ago - I’m sure you’re well aware of the variety of hats photographers can wear in the business now and in fact, I did the final color grading work on the most recent five episodes of the Discovery HD series “Sunrise Earth” and was curious if you even sent your project to Color let alone did any color correcting on these files.
Thanks again-

Comment by Joe McCabe 09.23.08 @ 12:44 am> Nikon always sends one person to poop in the punch bowl, don’t they?
no, I’m a 5D pro shooter indeed. I have too much invested in L lenses to consider Nikon.
> The camera is not at all pricey given its feature set.
Ahem… I was talking about the $5000 budget for production of the movie.
> but how many are really needed? 9 is perfectly fine
Look at it this way if you will : this 5D mkII has 9 points but only one is cross-type. You certainly know cross-types are the most responsive AF points. You may also know that the 1-year old 40D has 9 cross-type AF points.
I own both and the 40D can lock onto things much faster than the 5D when using peripheral points.
What good is a stunning 21MP image if it’s not in focus because you had to focus-and-recompose ? with the narrow DoF full frame can offer, do you really think focus-recompose is the best way to take a picture ?
And you’d also think a camera that can shoot clean ISO 6400 would be better equipped for low light work (in dark places, only cross-type AF sensors will allow reasonably paced candid shooting).
I’d be curious to hear Vincent’s thoughts on this (he surely uses cameras with more cross-type AF points and surely knows how it can help in getting a better photo)
Vincent ?

The answer is yes—the result would be 24 fps video with each frame exposed at 1/48th. But that is surely breaking in through the back window when the front door really aught to be wide open!

Hot pixels will typically show up in the same spot when shooting many consecutive long exposures and can be healed or cloned in PS, though video would be slightly a different story- particularly in non-static scenes. Most cameras are not immune to this (my 1DS Mark III will exhibit this on occasion, temporarily).
Also, though not the end-all rolling shutter test, the fast motion of the rims on the SUV tires look promising.

This is pure jaw dropping stuff. There is no doubt the 5DMKII produces unbelievable video quality and in your hands it becomes pure art. The resolution is nothing short of stunning. The detail on the close-up of the guys face are almost cutting lines in my screen.
I would love to see a “tech” version of Reverie with a note in a corner with what settings and lens you used for each scene.
As a footnote i don’t think we should forget that to get this kind of quality out this camera the importance of proper camera support. As it’s not really made for shooting video handheld (yet)on the go, viewfinder blacked out, cumbersome AF in LV mode etc.
I think the when it hit the shelves will hear many saying; Hey my 800$ camcorder shoots better video than this! Not resolution or IQ wise of course but more the final “look” of the clip. I guess that many amateurs will get better final results with an ordinary camcorder thanks to easier handling. Shaky HD video will never be a hit ;-).

Jonny - thought about that too. But this is video from a prototype camera… and no company in the world would allow people to download a file to their hard drives and analyze data from a prototype camera… and given that this prototype’s footage is flawless… I’m kinda scared to see what the final production model can do! Were these just shots that were not exposure locked before rolling? Other images that seem to be susceptible to exposure jumps due to lighting changes appear to have avoided the issue.
We see this sort of thing in the default settings of the Nikon D90 HD mode, but that camera has other artifacts the 5DM2 appears to avoid.

Unbearable hyperreality TV/video feel due to 30 frames/sec. Will need transfer to 24fps and softening to pass as “film”. Bizzare “blue-box” like feeling of the women’s silhouetee/profile against the water. Needs serious color correction work. If the codec is 4:1:1 which is most likely at this acquisition speed (38 mbit/sec) it’ll not be easy if at all plausible.
Allover no big deal. Any pro video camera will be another league (higher). At higher price sticker of course.
Camera is $2,700… cool
How much was the full production cost for the video?
Interesting - but even more interesting is how well Canon markets their products.
OMG, this makes me rethink life, imagining new possibilities…Video capability on a still camera was of absolutely no interest until I saw this.

Comment by Gary 09.23.08 @ 11:31 pmSimply brilliant.
I am pumped we did not switch back over.
Thanks, dude.
i was keeping my fingers crossed that this short “film” would blow my socks off. well, it didn’t. Nothing against Vincent or his filmmaking chops, my comments are only on the camera. I am an experienced cinematographer and also a photo enthusiast (owner of HVX200 and D300 respectively) and lately i’ve also come to love the look of using my M2 adapter and Nikon lenses with the videocamera. But this setup is a very inconvenient to say the least. So when i heard the news last week I hoped the 5D video would look a lot better than the D90 -full frame DOF and that movie feel. I was wrong. The HD video is just that: “video”. The look and feel is far from cinematic. The 30p is the killer(so was the auto iris/exposure). Canon must get the 5D MII to shoot true 24p with full manual controls before any filmmaker (with drama in mind, not docs) will be serious about replacing his/her 24p HD videocamera regardless of the mega pixals.
Who knows. I will probably end of getting the 5D anyway and hope for a 24p firmware fix or go back “to the old” days of down converting in post with so-so software conversions…

Pingback by Neil Duffin Blog » Blog Archive » A good quality 5D Mk 2 video… 09.24.08 @ 6:06 amA shame to read many commentators to complain about the hyper reality of the footage. To talk of revolution in the visual language we should not always be asking for the old ways to be returned. To me it is shame that 30P is not much better than 24P and the question as to why not 60P or 120P or 300P. But oh the DOF, the dynamic range, the contrast, and the sharpness is a revelation arriving to video at last. Revolution arrives many years late and always there are people saying too soon for them but I say this is progress. We should wait to see where it goes or become part of it.

Comment by Candyman 09.24.08 @ 12:31 pmThe impression of bad hyperreality comes unfortunately from : 1) the usage of 30fps which in everybody’s mind (in NTSC land) is equal to unscripted/live television 2) progressive character of carrier, while television is 30fps over 60 interlaced fields. Drama was “always” shot with 24fps and whether we like it or not this frame rate is perceived as feature story telling method.(Europe is a bit different). For the experience to be new and revolutionary a different frame rate should be used, eg. IMAX is 60fps . 30fps progressive is excellent for corporate pep talk Big Brother movies though. Before Canon announces the details of the codec this corporate/wedding field might remain the only viable area for 5D2 filmmaking. If the codec samples chroma at 4:1:1 or 4:2:0 it is useless for any pro postproduction. With the bit rate of 38mbit/sec it is the most likely option , unfortunately.
Cheers.

Comment by kim 09.24.08 @ 12:48 pmCan’t wait until this all reaches the Rebel in about four years time or less. (Remember the long ago days in 2003 when an 8MP Canon body cost $8 grand? And how we thought that 8MP was all we’d ever really need for resolution? So young and innocent we were in those days…)
Anyway, video looks great (memo to Henry: One man’s “cheese” is another’s bread and butter, so as a test video, the footage works just fine - and I look forward to seeing your documentary footage when you get your mitts on a 5D MII) and definitely marks a big step in d-SLR evolution. What Vincent doesn’t address is the new 5D’s ability to record sound, so don’t sell your HD camcorders on eBay just yet. Also, anyone buying the new 5D for video recording better hope that those just announced 100GB cards drop in price really, really soon…

Your purpose may not have been financially motivated, but certainly Canon will sell a lot of cameras because of this, and you have gotten a lot of publicity (= free advertising and future clients) from this video which clearly owes a lot to the choice of music (hence your reluctance to make it available sans music.) I’m not putting you or your work down, just saying Moby got taken advantage of here. I think this is one case of “Fair Use” being used unfairly.
Comment by Bob 09.25.08 @ 12:09 pmWow, wonderful movie, Vince. Nice behind the scenes film too. I thought the D90 was great with it’s video capabilities, but this goes a step beyond, what with longer clip times and higher res and full frame instead of APS-C so stuff can more easily be thrown farther out of focus easier. I think it’s definitely the end of the line for 35mm adapters on video cameras. And a great new era for high quality indie moviemaking.

Comment by Greg Greenman 09.25.08 @ 1:24 pmVincent, Very, very beautiful. Wonderfully made. I’m as excited as anyone about this new camera, but the one downfall I see (and it seems to be a REAL downfall) is that in your movie, and the only other video clip I’ve seen shot with this camera, Michael Reichman’s (at luminous-landscape.com), in neither one was the audio captured by the camera mike. This lends me to believe that we’re about to have a tremendous visual machine with a crappy microphone stuck to it. I’ve read that it does come with a jack in the side of the camera, but that it’s on the cheapo side, no for any “real” type of microphone. This is just an early comment……and I sure hope I’m wrong!

Comment by Justin 09.25.08 @ 5:04 pmRegarding audio: Nowadays you can get great, inexpensive stand-alone audio recorders, so no biggie that this camera doesn’t come with XLR jacks and audio pots. If it did, the surface real estate requirements would compromise its function as a still camera, so I think the compromise made was a good one, although I guess you could imagine a plug in screw on module sort of like a vertical grip with all the jacks and pots. Still it would mess with the mobility of the camera to tie it down with wires and such.

Pingback by Original “raw” clips from “Reverie” Now Available for Download « Vincent Laforet’s Blog 09.26.08 @ 11:17 pmVincent, your work, ‘Reverie’, points to the possibility of HD video being very accessible (and, maybe this is more the point - you can make use of your high spec stills lenses to capture HD).
I thought ‘Reverie’ was nicely shot and showed the skilled eye of a stills photographer, in composition and the fact that it was more imaginatively shot than some may have done in TV.
I know that the short film served to get a glimpse at the camera’s abilities, particularly in low light, but I think that among all the praise there is no mention of a good number of jarring cuts.
Most obviously, at the start of the piece the cut between the actor dropping the flowers to his head and shoulder shot doesn’t work. He leaves frame in the close up, but doesn’t enter the ‘MCU’. His action doesn’t match.
I think a ‘focus-up’ on the second shot of the piece and less time on the defocus of the first would have improved that transition.
Tilting up on the wide shot of the woman in red doesn’t work in my opinion unless accompanied by some physical vertical movement upwards and even then looks a little unmotivated.
The hand pulling the flowers from the bucket shot takes too long to cut off and the energy is lost.
Again, a continuity issue: the bead of sweet in C.U. doesn’t match the head turn and the daffodils in the hand in the helicopter – what happened to them?
I think the video deserves praise for the quality of the framing of the shots and for the demonstration of the high quality of the images from the Canon 5D and therefore it’s a shame that the cuts didn’t allow the piece to flow and ultimately the viewer to understand the narrative; had this been the case the piece would have flowed rather than looking like a row of nicely composed stills on video.
Dave M Reply:
October 12th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Amazingly petty nit-picking. It flowed perfectly, and the whole piece is pretty astounding for three days of work, start to finish.
Please, post your website where you have your perfect examples of the flawless editing of which you speak.
Why would anyone want fewer fps? If you want to degrade your footage so that it flickers (film effect) do it in post.

Those are just a few questions I came up with without thinking too hard.

Yes, built-in mic and stereo mic input. Don’t know if there’s an HP jack to monitor audio, and I doubt there’s a level control. 4GB or 29:59 is max, whichever comes first. Full quality video hits about 12 minutes and the 4GB card is maxed. Transfer rate is about 8mb/sec, and you CAN take still shots during video recording. There’s also an optional wifi pack you can strap onto the 5D to record to external USB, etc.

Comment by Justine 10.06.08 @ 5:32 pmGeez I wish people would stop saying “Full HD” and/or 1080 without telling us about frame rates or interlacing. 1080p@30fps - if that’s what it did - is *half* the rate of “Full HD”…

Pingback by Smugmug - First Impressions « Like the Ocean 10.07.08 @ 10:46 amReally enjoyed your video shot with the canon 5D MKII. Looks great. I just to do some photography, but at the moment more into Digital filmmaking. Very low budget. To keep a nice DOF and perspective, I always shoot with the help of the P+S mini35 and 35mm Zeiss filmlenses. In Brasil, “Show de Bola” is now in the cinemas.
But the DOF with the 5D MKII is even nicer. Hope canon will stick that CMOS chip etc in a Canon XL like body.
I do have a question though. Is there any kind of TIMECODE, shootng with the 5D MKII??
I’m shure you will have a billion emails, so it might take a while before you get to my mail.
Hope it will be before the end of the year.
Have to shoot a feature movie in Spain soon. Really start thinking to do it with the 5D MKII. These new Zeiss ZE lenses look very nice to use for film as well.
Best regards, Arie.

Actually, I noticed bend in some of the moving shots but it was hard to tell if this was from the specific lens he was using or if it was truly rolling shutter (or a combination of both).
Also, thanks again for posting this Vincent! It really did help me make a decision as I have been sitting on the fence.

Comment by richie 10.29.08 @ 2:16 pmAt first what I thought the video was going to be a gimmick feature I was still excited about the camera. After seeing what you can do with it I am beyond amazed now.
My question is about one scene though. When he’s laying there with the TV on, is the TV really the only light source? Obviously your lenses are super high quality but I thought for sure that scene was specially lit but I couldn’t see anything else in scene but the TV.
Comment by Rayn 10.31.08 @ 7:45 pmDoes anyone know if the contradiction between the claims of Chuck Westfall of Canon and Vincent have been resolved? Canon’s Chuck Westfall claims that there is ZERO direct control over any specific exposure settings, including aperture. But Vincent says the camera he used allowed him to set the aperture or shutter speed.
Vincent:
“you can shoot in Aperture priority - you set the Aperture and the camera chooses between 1/125th of a second or 1/60th of a second - and then it’s main control is the ISO
“you can shoot in shutter priority mode- set the shutter speed ( I think only 1′/60th and 1/125th of a second would be option here) and the camera sets the aperture and ISO for you…”
Chuck Westfall, Canon:
“Since the EOS 5D Mark II controls ISO, shutter speed and aperture value automatically in movie mode, there is no direct user control over these settings. The best way to force a wide aperture is to shoot in low light or with an ND filter. The best way to force a low ISO is to shoot in bright light. It’s not realistic to expect that you’ll be able to force the combination of wide aperture and low ISO at the same time in movie mode with the 5D Mark II. There is no ‘program shift’ in movie mode with the 5D Mark II to adjust the settings the camera picks. However, it is definitely possible to apply exposure compensation and AE lock in movie mode to override the camera’s automatic adjustments to a reasonable extent.”
Also, Canon:
“The following settings are made automatically by the camera and cannot be adjusted by the user:
ISO speed
Shutter speed (from 1/30 to 1/125)
Aperture (varies according to lens; no arbitrary restrictions)”
If Vincent is correct, there is a path to get f/1.4, shutter 1/60, and ISO 100 for a daylight close-up, for example. A very typical shot — a CU with b.g. blur. But if Westfall is correct, you’ll never get that shot. The iris will likely not open up wide until the ISO has gone into noise territory.
There’s a mile of difference between directly controlling one variable and directly controlling none. It’s huge.
Westfall says none. Vincent says one.
Which is it?
